Vanessa Fischer received a BFA from Queens College, CUNY and currently lives in Brooklyn. Fischer is a New York certified art teacher and photographs fine art in New York City.
Fischer’s photography has been exhibited in major group shows at Flushing Town Hall and the Queens College BFA Gallery. Fischer’s debut series Reflective Memories depicts her now-abandoned and derelict childhood home as a place of childhood nostalgia and longing with monochromatic shades of brown and grey.
Fischer’s current series Transitions depicts warped figures underwater, often in action, to mimic the experience of being in the womb. Fischer rejects contemporary digital enhancement and instead employs techniques from the advent of photography to give her works a soft realism and places the images somewhere between a photograph and a painting.
